Joey’s 5 Month Update

Today my big boy turned 5 months! That’s 20 weeks of loving this bundle of joy and I couldn’t be happier. I honestly don’t know where the time went because it feels like it was just yesterday I was posting his 4 month photo. He is growing and changing everyday and it is not possible to capture every new moment because I just blink and he’s doing something new!

Overall How Joey is Doing

Currently Joey is wearing size 3 diapers and is really gaining so much strength everyday. Just last week he discovered his feet and is now grabbing at them and pulling them up to his face! He’s not yet rolling but I think we will any day now because his feet fall to the side and he’s starting to get that momentum! I hope I don’t miss the first time but you never know. He absolutely loves his hands and could stare at them all day long. Recently he also started reaching out and trying to grab toys (or your face if you’re close enough) and will not let go. His toy rings are his favorite because he can easily hold them and put them in his mouth!

Feeding

As far as feeding goes, Joey is still taking primarily 6, 6oz bottles a day. We have started introducing solids to him but he really doesn’t like anything other than oatmeal. We prepare it with water and his formula so I think he only likes it because the taste is similar to his bottle. If he eats the whole bowl of oats that we prepare for him. he will occasionally only eat 5 bottles that day but we follow his hunger cues. If he appears fussy or like he is still looking for food we feed him another bottle. We have also started giving him multivitamins daily to make sure he is getting all the essential nutrients he needs since he is eating more solid foods and is older. The multivitamin we chose is the Wellements organic multivitamin drops. Joey doesn’t seem to mind them12 so we have incorporated it into our night time routine. This way we give him his gripe water and vitamins at the same time. This makes it easy and we don’t forget. I will do more of a feeding update once we start him on more solids and figure out what he likes!

Bedtime/Sleeping

We have actually pushed back Joey’s bedtime because he has been waking up a little too early (3:30-5am.) We now give Joey a bath at 7pm and have him sleeping no earlier than 8. Anything earlier then that he seems to be waking up and having a hard time falling back asleep in the middle of the night. He is still taking 4 naps a day but now his last nap is usually around 6pm to be able to make it to bedtime. His first nap is between 9-10am since Joey has been doing a better job this past week at waking up around 8am. The naps are still really short, we are lucky if he sleeps 40 minutes haha but we are considering purchasing takingcarababies ABC’s program since it is suitable for babies 5 months and up. We will see how the next couple of weeks go and then go from there!

Joey’s Favorite Toys/Activities

  • He loves his baby einstein
  • Toy rings
  • Baby activity center
  • He is really starting to like tummy time more and more
  • He loves reading books
  • Playing with his hands and feet
  • Smiling and talking so much to everyone now

Joey is seriously the light of our life and I can not imagine what life was like without him anymore. His little personality is starting to show and I think he is definitely going to be a little sassy like his mama! We are beyond grateful for a healthy baby boy and are looking forward to continuing seeing him grow!

-With love, Kasia
