What’s In My Diaper Bag

What should I put in my diaper bag? How many diapers do I need? Do I need all these extra clothes? All of these were questions I asked myself as a new mom and to be completely honest, sometimes I still wonder what and how much of it I should bring. I do however feel more confident than I did when Joey was first born so I thought I would share with you guys how I pack before I leave the house with Joey. I linked all the specific things that we have below and I also uploaded an IGTV on my Instagram today of the complete tutorial of me showing you all these things!

Mom Tip:

ALWAYS pack the bag the night before!! (you will thank me later) you do not know how many times I was running around the morning of a doctor visit panicking because we had to leave and I had to feed/change/dress Joey AND the bag was not packed. By packing it the night before it is one less thing to worry about and you can just grab it and throw a bottle in there and you’re good to go!

Also, I would recommend packing your bag before you even deliver your baby. We brought ours to the hospital (didn’t use it because the hospital will have everything you will need) BUT just having the bag prepared for when you have to do your 24hr newborn checkup + all the other visits within the first few weeks, LIFE SAVER. Especially during that newborn madness that you’re literally just in survival mode for, it is so helpful to have it all ready to go!

Let’s Get Into It!

So my bag has honestly not changed much from when Joey was a newborn. I still pack the same things because Joey is still very little and does require a change of clothes or extra burp clothes… all you moms know how it goes haha

The bag itself is from Eddie Baur. I thought this bag was so cute and practical because it’s a backpack style (anything that you can attach to the stroller or easily put on your back is a must because your hands are free to do other things). This bag fits everything we need and has both a wipe insert side pocket and an insulated bottle holder pocket to keep your baby’s bottle warm. The insulated bottle pocket does really only fit one bottle but there are other pockets within the bag that are also meant for bottles (just not insulated) butI find that one is plenty!

What I Pack For Joey:

  • Obviously diapers! (they say pack 1 diaper for every hour you are gone, I personally always like to have 6 but when Joey was first born I liked to keep it closer to 10)
  • Wipes
  • Diaper rash cream
  • Diaper changing station (our bag came with a diaper changing matt but I really like this one because it folds up and I even use it around the house)
  • Change of clothes (I always pack two outfit sets)
  • Extra socks
  • Extra mittens (I do not pack this anymore but when Joey was a newborn I always did)
  • Burp clothes (3-4)
  • Extra pacifier
  • Pacifier cleaner wipes (we use the munchkin wipes)
  • Bottle (when they are a newborn ALWAYS bring food if you are not nursing but now I only pack a bottle if we are going to the doctor/someone’s house)
  • Toys (when Joey was a newborn I did not but now I usually bring 2 smaller ones that rattle and make noise)
  • Bottle warmer/formula/extra bottles (I only bring these things if we are going over to someones house and I know we are going to be gone for most of the day)

What I Pack For Myself:

  • Hand sanitizer spray
  • Chapstick
  • Hair tie
  • Snack (if I know I might get hungry/didn’t have much time to eat)
  • Water

That is it! I keep it nice and simple, just the basics. You really do not need to overthink it, just think of the basics you use at home daily and throw those in there. Also, don’t forget about yourself mama, you’re important too and putting everything you need into the same bag makes it so much easier because you don’t have to carry an additional purse around!

I hope this helped and I plan on also doing a “What I Packed In My Hospital Bag” soon!

I’m curious, what is something that you never leave the house without?

-With love, Kasia
