Joey’s Nursery

Alright you guys, I promised you that I would do a post all about Joey’s nursery and here it is! When I was pregnant, one of the very first things I wanted to get started on was the nursery. I had so many ideas running through my head and I wanted it to be perfect! Once we found out we were having a boy we decided to go with a safari animal theme. Mostly giraffes and elephants but we have other animals too as well as keeping it neutral colors with pops of blue. I am so excited to show you guys and hope you get some inspiration for you little one! I am going to link everything that I possibly can and talk about some of the pieces in more detail. I will also talk about some of these things on my instagram if you want to check that out to get a closer look. Let’s get into it!

Crib/Dresser/Glider & ottoman

The bigger pieces of furniture (glider, crib, dresser) are all from buybuy baby. We wanted to go with more neutral colors so we decided on lighter wood and cream colored glider w/ottoman. The dresser and crib are AMAZING quality. They are SO heavy but so worth it. We liked the more traditional look and were trying to keep in mind storage + the idea of passing this on to future babies. This crib and dresser set are very well made and allow for plenty of storage. As for the glider, we love it! It is very smooth and you can adjust how far you want it to be able to go back. The ottoman can serve as both a foot rest and as extra storage which is realy nice! It comes in other colors but we thought the cream would tie nicely with any nursery decor. We use it multiple times a day because Joey definitely loves the rocking motion. So perfect for snuggling!

Crib Betting

Most of the bedding we have is also from buy buy baby. We actually got a set which included a cover, sheets and a bed skirt. Currently we are not using the cover, since Joey is very little but once Joey is older we will let him use it!  The bumper that is on the crib is also from a buybuy baby and we only recently started using it. Joey will sometimes kick and push up in his sleep to the point that he will rorate himself in his crib and we wanted to make sure he didn’t hurt himself on the crib bars while doing so. I have also purchased a few extra sheets from Target and I really recommend Target baby sheets because they are good quality and a good price point!

Crib Mattress

We decided to go with the waterproof newton baby crib mattress. Sleep was something that always scared me as a mom because of course I wanted my baby to be as safe as possible. I did not want to have to worry but also wanted to get the most use for our money. This mattress has both a newborn and toddler side. You will get years of use out of it and it is breathable because of the material it is made out of. If the cover gets wet (unavoidable with a newborn) it’s so easy to take off and you just throw it in the wash! Ever since we moved Joey into his crib he sleeps very well on it! One of the more expensive mattress options but I think worth every penny for your baby’s safety.

Diaper Pail

We decided to go with the diaper genie. It was a less expensive option but in our opinion works really well. You can not smell anything at all when it is closed (of course when you open it you do get a whiff but that is expected haha) once you close it back up it keeps the smell out. We also buy off brand bags for it and they work perfectly fine. You get more use per bag package than you think you will, so overall I would say it’s a win.

Rug

I wanted something neutral but also bright. I got this from Target and really like it! It is soft under your feet and gives Joey’s nursery a cozy feel! We have this rug in the cream, in the picture online it looks almost white but it is a creamy color.

Giraffe

Funny story, even before I was pregnant I always knew that I wanted to put a big giraffe in my future baby’s nursery. One of the first things that I goggled when planning Joey’s nursery was a big giraffe! We got this one at Target and I’m obsessed with it! It’s a good height and I think will be fun for Joey to play with once he gets older.

Changing Pad

Joe and I decided to go with the most basic option. The only thing I will say is we do not use a cover anymore because it got to the point that we would always have to be washing it… Now we just wipe it down with every use and it makes it a lot easier (the older Joey gets the fewer accidents he also has) … I think with the next baby down the road, we will be looking into getting a better option. Something I would recommend is the keekaroo. I know this is pricery for what it is but the design of this is pretty great and it has good reviews.

Letter Board

This is also from Target (most of the decorational pieces are haha) We got this before Joey was born and actually brought it to the hospital with us. I don’t think we will ever change what it says because I want it to be his little memory forever. We put it together the day we left the hospital and took pictures of him with it in the hospital bassinet. I want to forever remember the day he was born and I hope one day when he grows up, he will be able to look back and see when he was so little!

Name Sign

This was something  I actually got Joey for his first Christmas. I saw these on etsy and I thought they were the cutest things ever. It is a name puzzle so when he gets older, I thought it would be fun for him to learn how to spell his name. I customized the colors and think it turned out so nice! For now it will just stay propped up on the shelf and serve as a decoration piece!

Number blocks

These blocks are from buybuy baby and we just have them up on the shelf as decoration. We use them to take monthly photos of Joey and will probably continue using them as he grows through the first couple of years!

White Cube Organizer & Baskets

This white shelf and all the baskets in it, you guessed it, also Target! I wanted some extra storage for books, towels, shampoos, toys, all those kind of things, since we were very lucky and received quite a bit of them from our baby shower. You can either put this shelf vertically like we have it or do it long ways horizontally.  The baskets are nice if you do not want everything showing but I think I will change them out one day for blue ones… I am still not sold on the grey but maybe I’ll end up moving them into a different room!
